Planned trip

I am planning an epic trip from the UK, through numerous European countries visiting various wildlife sanctuaries where efforts are being made to ensure the survival of endangered species around the globe, and where people are being taught the importance of maintaining the flora and fauna we have left. The European part of the trip will end, finally, in Sicily where we will board a ship or plane over to Somalia. From there we will travel down Africa, finally ending in South Africa then heading up the coast to Gorongosa National Park in Mozambique. I hope to be ready to travel, by motorcycle, this time next year. The entire trip will be documented, and we hope to get a number of people to come along. Funds raised from the proceeds of the sale of the footage, will be used to help fund various humanitarian/wildlife efforts and possibly to help us embark upon similar efforts of our own.

Moving here to a first world country has made me realize that I cannot live a 9 to 5 existence. I need to be doing something that I perceive as useful. My quest now, is to generate enough interest in this epic journey, one of discovery and adventure, with a purpose. If anyone is interested in joining this adventure, please post a comment. If interested, look at earlier entries on this blog to see the sort of humanitarian/wildlife stuff I am referring to. Hope to hear from people who are passionate about this sort of thing, and determined to make a difference.

Missing Home

Mud Island is OK, but so built up and basically I yearn for the African bush....it's in my blood. I miss not being able to walk bare foot or in flip-flops, I miss the heat, I miss the animals, I miss the dangers of handling venomous snakes or walking in areas where other dangerous animals live......everything about the bush, I miss.

Maybe, after the long, cold winter here, I will get to see and learn more about the countryside and its wildlife, but I fear that after what I have been accustomed to, it will be mild and relatively unexciting.
